Bogota (and heading to costa rica)
I left Merida by bus and traveled in the zomg-don't-go-there-you-will-die zone between venezuela and colombia, without issue.
Once in Cucuta Colombia, i was scammed for close to 100k pesos; but whatdya gonna do. Took a 16 hour bus ride from Cucuta to Bogota, and spend a week being a very lazy traveler.
At 20k pesos a night including breakfast and dinner, the hostel I have been staying is quite nice. Mostly I wander around the city during the day, eating nice street food (huge tamales for 1500 pesos). I did go to the gold museum which was interesting. I have spent a lot of time studying both spanish and haskell.
What will eventually be my undoing, or, life changing surmount, is how much I revel in not having anything to do. I can spend so much time reading and studying and wandering to my hearts content, I am not taking near the advantage of 'seeing' everything I could. But I don't mind.
Tomorrow I fly from Bogota to San Jose costa rica; I will stay a night in a hostel near the airport, and pick up sam the next day !!! and we will have a romantic time on whichever coast Sam decides is the right one (im guessing east).
The little I have seen of Colombia I like much more than Venezuela; people seem friendler and happier. Things are a bit cheaper. I wonder how being at sea level will be after spending all this time at 2600M (8500 feet or so). Looking forward to all that extra O2.
I have been lazy about picture taking; and as well, internet speed is abysmal so I haven't bothered uploading what I have.
