still in merida

its been a fun and interesting two and a half weeks here. i hope the lack of proper punctuation van be tolerated as i write this from my kindle. my laptops transformador randomly went out.. and is hopefully being repaired.

my aprehension of spanish is slower going than i had hoped. argely due to not studying hard for a week or so

two chicas.. claire from cottland and carolin from germany.. imposed a social life onto mu otherwise hermit self. we went dancing and met locals and booked a trip to catatumbo.. basically the only wonder i really wanted to see in vzla.

there was no lightning.. alas. but we saw so much.. cloud forest.. crepy river where our guide caught a cayman with his bare hands.. sugar cane factory.. cofffee uhh farm.. lots of plantations and plaza de boivars.

but almost all of that time was in english since claire and i both spoke not enough spanish to communicate and carolins english was excellent.. as well as the guides. the other german from another posada had passable english s thats what it was.

it was fun.. but not what i am really going for. it didnt feel so fruitful other than maling friends.

i am eating like aa goddammed king here. marlene.. the posada mamasita cooks really good food twice per day.. and when i am feeling particularly glutunous i will spend 3 or 5 dollars on a lunch so amzing it would make you cry. soup fresh juice some sort of fruity sweet thing.. then the food comes. a perfectly filleted trout or cut of carne with vegetables and rice and alwya plantains prepared some way. also.. though there are espresso machines everywhere and i dont think you can order a drip coffee.. getting a well pulled shot is oly fifty fifty.

there is a popular snack here.. a uhh titiana or tinzia or something. basically freshly cut fruit salad in a glass of fruit juice. its good and traditional. but i find my self going for the less common and more mundane ensalada de fruta. for about two fiddy american you get more delicious fruit than yo could cup in both hands.. fresh cut and delicious. a real luxury since a beef filled empanada is about eighty cents.

i took more pictures tha u have uploaded.. i will try and get them up sooner rather than later. carolin is a great photographer with a good camera.. i will try and supplement my abum with her pictured where appropriate.

if i make it safely to columbia i hear its much nicer there. i expect to be im olumbia about two weeks from now
